“Who will form INDIA Bloc?” Agnimitra Paul calls TMC ‘tukde-tukde gang’
The political atmosphere intensified in Diamond Harbour on Thursday following the murder of a close aide of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, as BJP workers and supporters staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killing. Demonstrators blocked National Highway 117 in the Diamond Harbour Assembly area, leading to severe traffic disruption for several hours and causing inconvenience to commuters and local residents. Protesters alleged that attempts were being made to protect the main accused in the case and questioned the role of the police in the investigation.
BJP workers claimed that despite considerable time having passed since the incident, the principal accused had not yet been arrested. In protest, party supporters sat on a dharna on the national highway and continued their demonstration demanding immediate police action. The blockade led to long traffic congestion across the area as vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the highway during the agitation.
Since Thursday morning, BJP supporters from different parts of Diamond Harbour gathered at the protest site after taking out rallies carrying party flags and placards. Protesters raised slogans throughout the demonstration, including demands for the arrest of the accused and criticism of alleged administrative inaction. The area remained tense during the protest as large numbers of demonstrators continued the blockade and agitation on the highway.
